Celebrate Te Wiki o te Reo Māori / Māori Language week
September 14 - 20 2020
Take time this Te Wiki o te Reo Māori to celebrate, promote and revitalise te Reo Māori! Not sure where to start? These books, for babies to ten year olds, will help.
Featuring simple and graphic images depicting the colours of iconic New Zealand flora such as the silver fern, yellow kowhai and the red of the New Zealand Christmas tree, pohutukawa. Each image includes the name in te Reo Māori.
This book celebrates the shapes of New Zealand’s fauna for our littlest readers. Each animal pictured in the book is accompanied by their name in both te Reo Māori and English. Tohutō are also used correctly, although regional dialect differences aren’t included for some animals.
Jeremy is starting a new school. He is a bit nervous and a lot worried but the children in this class are welcoming. Every time he thinks he can't take part they say 'Of course you can!' and so he plays soccer, joins in the Kapa Haka and even takes part in the cross country. But when it comes to swimming the children tell him not to do it...can Jeremy say 'of course I can'?
The smell, sound, taste, feel and sights of summer are featured in a delicious list of adjectives in both Māori and English - designed to extend vocabulary and encourage a love of language.
Written in te reo Māori with images of New Zealand flora and fauna, accompanied by a brief sentence using the word. Designed to help babies through to younger children to focus and recognise word shapes and phrases.
