Matariki marks the passage of another year; a time both to remember the dead and to celebrate new life; to reflect on the previous year, and to let it go; to look to the promise of a new season and a new year. In the past, in the cold months around Matariki, people would gather to keep warm, share kai and share knowledge through pūrākau (stories) and song . . . here are some new books from Aotearoa to share this winter!

This catalogue, produced by The Coalition for Books NZ, includes the OneTree House titles, Nor'East Swell, Takurua: My Winter Words / Ngā Kupu Māori mō te Takurua, and our new bilingual editions of Of Course You Can!, plus great books from other Aotearoa New Zealand publishers. Exploring the Matariki Winter Catalogue felt like tracing Aotearoa’s own constellation of stories, each book shining with its unique voice. From picture books for tamariki to powerful histories rooted in our whenua, every page offered inspiration. Discovering the section on business and law sparked new ideas for my corporate law dissertation topics, turning abstract thoughts into exciting research paths. More than a catalogue, it became a guide for reflection, learning, and growth during these thoughtful winter nights.
