White Moko, the second memoir from Tim Tipene (see Mrs Battleship written for a junior audience) we read Tim telling the story of his life from a miserable childhood, in which he was abused by both his birth and foster families, to the founding of the Warrior Kids programme 22 years ago. Bob Docherty called it "the most powerful book I have read for some time" and whatbooknext.com said it is an "unflinching personal account that every New Zealand High School Library should have on their Senior Reads shelves...an inspiration to all."
Tim Waitai-Tipene, (Ngati Kuri/Ngati Whatua), was adopted into the Waitai-Tipene whanau as a toddler. He was raised in two cultures, NZ MÄori and NZ European. Tim was first published in 1996 and has written eleven books, five of which have won awards.
