Of Course You Can, written by Karen Hinge, illustrated by Nicky Sievert, and translated by Ngaere Roberts, has been chosen as one of the 2021 IBBY Selection of Outstanding Books for Young People with Disabilities.

This bilingual story is presented in English and Te reo Māori and focuses on the nerves of a boy starting school. He lacks confidence in his ability to join in, as he is in a wheelchair. When he says he can’t get involved, his classmates find ways for him to join in. At the end of his first week, he is finding school “awesome”!

The 2021 Outstanding List will be presented at the IBBY press conference at the Bologna Children’s Book Fair in June 2021. The list will also be available through the IBBY website where you can find out more about the work they do.
